Every kid can get outside: move-learn-navigate.
We are excited to launch SOGO Adventure Running Summer Camps - our new summer program for kids in the Calgary community. Our Summer Camps program has grown out of demand from our SOGO community, who have been a part of our evening programs and want to find ways to keep our Calgary and area kids running in the summer season. Our Summer Camp curriculum is drawn from our SOGO regular program activities, providing students and athletes a fun, highly motivating adventure running program: teaching kids the skills of navigation, endurance, agility, and speed. Groups will rotate through activity stations throughout the day to keep participants learning, growing and developing. Our activities follow Orienteering Canada's Long Term Athlete Development model to teach skills to learn and grow through sport and having fun. We have created two small groups in order to divided kids based on age and ability to ensure everyone receives the coaching and guidance they need and enjoys the maximum skills development from the program. |

Group 1: ages 6 - 9Through highly motivating playful games and activities, participants will navigate through adventure running stations as they learn the basics of Adventure Running. Our curriculum for this program will align with our regular SOGO Level 1 program and Orienteering Canada's Long Term Athlete Development, FUNdamentals stage. Each day focuses on building skills by engaging in activities focusing on Speed and Power, Strength and Agility, Endurance, and Navigation. Activities are located throughout Confederation Park. The stations rotate throughout the week to keep participants learning, growing and developing. Our small group ratio ensures all kids receive the coaching and guidance they need and enjoys the maximum skills development from the program. No previous SOGO, navigation or orienteering experience is necessary as our small group ration will ensure all kids can participate, learn and have fun! Group 2: ages 10-12Our Group two program will move past the dedicated stationed activities of our Group 1/Level 1 program to focus more on navigation and independence, similar to our SOGO Level 2 program curriculum and Orienteering Canada's Long Term Athlete Development, Learn to Train stage. Kids are often found running with a map to find checkpoints throughout the park, they go farther from the meeting area and challenge each other to run while thinking about the best route. Kids in this group can focus on improving their running, navigation and route finding skills. No previous SOGO, navigation or orienteering experience is necessary as our small group ration will ensure all kids can participate, learn and have fun! |
