SOGO Level 3 (Teens)
Performance Training
SOGO Level 3 is our most advanced training program, designed for kids who have previous experience orienteering. Completion of a season or more of Level 2 is ideal, but certainly not required. We don't have a formal age bracket for Level 3, but most of our Level 3 athletes fall between 12 and 17 years old. Athletes meet once per week to build and hone their navigation abilities, technical terrain running skills, and physical fitness. We train on a different map within the city every Sunday morning from 10 to 12pm. In the Spring session, Sunday training happens on forest maps mostly outside the city (always within an hour's drive of Calgary). In the Fall session, Sunday training integrates with an urban sprint orienteering race series that takes place throughout Calgary. Level 3's are challenged more extensively through exciting advanced maps, personal goal-setting and achievements, and by attending running and orienteering races throughout the season (local or further afield). Level 3 coaches are formally trained in orienteering coaching and include experienced veteran and national level elite orienteers. Athletes who are particularly driven may also start to take on a leadership role at SOGO, developing new skills in organization, collaboration and leadership. If you would like more information about the Level 3 program or would like to know if the program is right for your young athlete, please email our Level 3 Head Coach. |

The purpose of training is to tighten up the slack, toughen the body, and polish the spirit.
