SOGO Policies

Refunds
In the event a registered athlete is unable to participate in SOGO Adventure Running we will refund 100% of the registration fee less a $35 administration fee up to four weeks prior to the beginning of the season. Only 50% of the registration fee will be refunded up to the first day of the season. After the first day, no refund will be provided. A $35 fee will be charged for all requests to change day or time of SOGO Adventure Running programs.

Code of Conduct
All SOGO participants will strive to be a positive addition to the group:
  • By treating other athletes, parents, members and coaches with respect
  • By following instructions presented by the coach or leader
  • By respecting differences in gender, age, race, religion, or tastes of all Members of the group and refraining from commenting on these differences in a negative light.
  • By including all Members of the group equitably, and extending kindness by being helpful and courteous.
Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct will result in:
  1. A spoken notification from coach to athlete and written notification to the guardian from head coach
  2. Removal from the program if the behaviour cannot be addressed in the following  SOGO practice, with no refund.
  3. At any time an athlete may be asked to “sit out” during a given activity if their behaviour is harmful or unsafe.
*Any participant that does not adhere to the code of conduct will be asked to sit-out for the remainder of the session. Parents will be contacted.

Land Use Policy
Moving through the terrain is a fundamental part of adventure running and it is imperative that we, as adventure runners respect and protect our environment.

All SOGO Adventure Runners shall abide by the following guidelines:
  • Will not damage any part of the environment (including leaving sticks and plants in their place) and will not leave any litter behind.
  • Shall only visit areas outlined by the coach.
  • Will honour the ribboning and markings on the map which indicate “Out-of-Bounds” areas.

Weather
If the air temperature is -15 OR colder at the Environment Canada, Calgary International Airport, the session will be cancelled. The head coach MAY also cancel a session if the air temperature is warmer than -15 but there is a significant wind chill. This decision will be made based on the exposure to wind at a given location.

If Environment Canada issues a Weather Warning (storm, winds, lightning, etc.) we MAY cancel a session. SOGO Staff and coaches will assess how the warning effects the specific program or event location and decide if the session will be cancelled (we all know how localized weather systems can be in Calgary).

Parents are encouraged to monitor the Calgary Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) and discuss with coaches if their children have breathing concerns.  SOGO sessions will be cancelled if the AQHI is 7+.

The decision to cancel a program will be emailed to all participants at least two hours prior to program start. Please check your email on days when the temperature is approaching the cut-off, if the weather is looking dangerous or contact your head coach if you will not be able to check your email.

Although we do our best to ensure that our SOGO program operates in all weather conditions, programs are at times subject to cancellation due to unsafe conditions for our runners. In the event of program cancellation, SOGO Adventure Running reserves the right to cancel any program due to adverse weather related conditions without refund.

Facility Access Policy  *SOGO Staff are currently updating this policy and will post shortly.

Lost Runner Policy
Foothills Orienteering and SOGO Adventure Running have extensive lost person policies. The program and its stations are designed to minimize the risk of anyone going missing and we have a very good track record to that effect. Despite our best efforts issues can arise in which case there is a procedure our coaches will follow which increases in scope as time goes by without the runner being found.
